I LOVE L.A.
Farewell to you my faithful friend.
I thought we'd be together till the end.
We had joy, we had fun,
There wasn't much sun.
From Novemeber 2004 to the beginning of April 2005 I lived in L.A. in zip code 90039 not far from downtown and a short walk to Griffith park. Oh, what a wonderful time it was.
First, there was the excellent hospitality of our dear friend Peter S. Then there was a fabulous job at Liberty Mutual Insurance. I worked next door to a mall that took up two city blocks. Why did I leave? Well, many people came together to express their displeasure at my regional location. As I thought about living in LA long term I despaired of ever having enough money to go to school. However, leaving LA was foolish. Oh well. Sometime I'll be back and always visiting Peter will keep me returning. However, I do love the city on its own.
Here is an encapsulation of what I did while in LA:
01. Hiked both in the mountains and around downtown.
02. Spent many nights walking to Trader Joe's, the smelly LA cement river, and Griffith park.
03. Visited the abadoned old zoo and the new zoo pre-updated contstruction.
04. Stumbled upon a left over set of Reese Witherspoon's coming flick "Far from Heaven".
05. Saw the awesome force of a month of rain completely change and further create a canyon.
06. Ate my weight in Ben and Jerry's ice cream.
07. Was dazzled by the nights in Hollywood and Malibu.
08. Bought nothing at the Grove and one small thing at the Universal Studios City Walk.
09. Hosted my father.
10. At the Getty experienced the orgasmic joy of seeing Jacque Louis David's paintings!
11. Fabulous church and sang a soprano solo at Christmas. (it was a medieval carol-lullaby)
12. Peterson Automotive Musuem, the Huntington, LA Library and Engine Co. 29
13. Took the tour of classic movie houses, allergies acted up, but enjoyed it nonetheless.
14. Learned about the word 'gooshing'
15. Watched a wonderful selection of quality films (i.e. most films of the 30's, 40's and 50's)
16. San Pedro Tide Pools and wonderful beaches and the RED CARS!!!!
17. LA cathedral and it's crypt. Also the romantically morbid Hollywood Cemetery.
